This saturday me, Stefan and the rest of his family attended SMÖF – Söderbärke Micro Öl (Beer) Festival. It’s located in the middle of the forest and I’m not kidding, it’s really in the middle of the entire forest. I think I even saw some bears and beavers on the way in to the house.

It was a rather small festival with alittle more than 100 beers. It was devided into two different buildings with a small outside road between them. In the picture above is the beer that is on tap and inside the other house were alot of bottles.
There was also a quite interesting addition to this festival witch i haven’t seen before. They called it the Single Bar, they simply randomized the beers from a fridge with assorted left-overs or something and wrote on a whiteboard what beer was served at that specific moment. It was a rather fun addition and I think people really appriciated it. The bad thing though was that it was right next to the hot dog stand.
Something else that i really appriciated apart from the other festivals that i’ve attended was that they even put up some tables and chairs so we didn’t have to stand all day. So you could go choose a coupple of beers then head back to your table while taesting.

Here’s a picture of the bar with bottles. It was really crowded in here pretty much all the time.
I enjoyed the festival alot although the 10 hours there felt like a really long time, i could’ve settled for less. Stefan on the other hand enjoyed something he hadn’t been for a loong time, he didn’t have any beers left to taste. He felt complete.
I didn’t note down any beers. But there were some that left a big impression on me. These will be reviewed in the upcomming post.
While tapping Death by Hops 2 – Return of the Hops i tasted a few other beers.
Maredsous Brune 8 – 8%

It poured into a dark brown liquid that left a huge foam, probably because that glas was so high and not really formed for pouring beer into it.
The smell was very sweet and malty, I think i smelled something fruity aswell although I’m not sure about that.
The taste was alittle roasted (i think it was brewed on roasted malts) with a thick body. Although the taste dissapeared rather fast without leaving much to notice. I can’t help but feeling that there’s something they could’ve added to prolong the taste.
3/5, it’s a nice beer.
Chimay Peres Trappistes – 8%

A light brown-ish beer that left some lacing. Smelled of yeast and something sweet.
The taste was smooth and it had a light bitterness and some hops. It was a good beer but really nothing else to describe about the taste. Very easy to drink.
3.2/5
As promised, the first actual rating of beer on this site was in honor to the people that brought me into the world of beer. But instead of just tasting the beer, i even got to attend to the tapping of the beer. Kind of fun to see how the beer is actually tapped and it was fun to see the place where it was brewed, Stefan gave me a quick guide of what the different cans where doing there.
As you can see, he’s very eager to explain them.

The tapping process is very loong and difficult indeed, there are 3 different relays that needs to be turned on and off at specific times. I even got to tap a beer and as you can see, i’m very focused.

I even got to take this one with me home so that I can brag to my grandparents and if they’re nice they might get to taste it. Speaking of witch, here’s my very first, very own beer review.
Death by Hops 2 – Return of the Hops 9.6%
It poured into a golden liquid that left some foam with big bubbles. It was a hazy brown-yellow beer that smelled of alot of hops and citrus fruits.
It had a strong taste of hops (a normal IPA is about 5-6g/10dl and this had 13g/10dl witch is alot) with a dry mouthfeel.
Overall it was a really nice beer, however i’m not really that into beers with lots of hops.

I’d give it 3.8/5, it’s a really nice beer but as i said, it was really not for me.
Beer, the magical land of malt and hops combined with alhol formed into a golden liquid witch we pour down our throat with great pleasure.
As you might have guessed and probably the whole reason that you are reading this is that it’s my blog about beer. There is a slight chance that I’m forcing you to read this aswell.
